I came to painting relatively late in life, since I was not encouraged to pursue art at school. After a number of years studying languages then working as secretary, tutor and exhibitions organiser I spent many years in community arts, providing opportunities for other people to be creative.

Over the past couple of decades I have spent more time on my own creativity, particularly painting and writing, and have exhibited my paintings several times in East Kent. More information can be found under exhibitions. For information on current paintings, please see recent paintings.

I hope you enjoy exploring this site. Please use the contact me section for any comments, queries or to register interest in a workshop.

Moira Hyde

I offer painting workshops at my house from time to time, usually in blocks of three sessions of two hours each. These may be or groups of up to six people. No previous experience in painting is necessary.

In addition I offer one-to-one workshops for artists who wish to “loosen up” and re-discover their creativity after working in a particular discipline over a period of time. I received the following feedback after a recent “freeing up” session:

I attended a workshop run by Moira, as I really like her work, especially the freedom, joy and spontaneity in her pieces. I had become a little stuck with my creativity and always felt I had to think of a subject first then make the picture. It was great to have the opportunity to play with paint in the workshop, enjoying using  colour and making marks without  having any preconceived ideas. It was interesting to work on several bits of paper at the same time, there was a lot  of freedom in that. I particularly enjoyed  layering  the paint and the excitement of images appearing in the work. I now feel that I am open to the process of discovery and able to be more spontaneous. With the techniques that Moira taught me, I am starting a new journey and I am very excited about the new work I am now making.

Thank you Moira

Happy Artist

I also run monthly writing workshops at my home, usually on the first Friday of each month. These are four hour sessions with a lunch break. You can find out more under writing workshops.
